Well Hello There
I started blogging again in the beginning of the year with great enthusiasm. I had a whole schedule in my mind about writing and posting and topics. I was debating moving over to Word Press, or at least refreshing the look of the blog. And then COVID. I even did okay at the start of the madness. Then we went on vacation for a week (more on that in a later post), and when we got back, we started the last remodeling project in our house.
The project was only 3 weeks, and since it was the basement it was not supposed to be nearly as disruptive as the remodel of our main living area. Well, that thought didn’t take into account the fact that we were working from home. Working upstairs while they are breaking up tile does not make for easy concentration. By the time the workday was done, my brain was fried! I didn’t even read the book club book for the month of May, and I had never missed a month prior to this.
Thankfully, the remodel is done – and it was so worth it. We have a few more bits and baubles to get
situated, but nothing that requires that much mental expenditure. Work, however, has continued to be crazy, but I’m getting into a routine. All of this to say, hopefully I’ll be able to get back to
writing more and posting more.

Things Making Me Smile
For as long as April was, there were some things that made me smile. Here's just a few . . .
1. A long drive with my husband in honor of my birthday.
We were supposed to go to Cleveland and go shopping, but with everything closed we just took a drive. It may not have been what we originally planned, but it was such a relaxing, low key day. And we ended it with Thai takeout :)
2. Hanging out on Zoom each Tuesday with the ladies from church.
Our twice a month Bible study at Panera has turned to a weekly meet-up on Zoom. These have been some of the best moments of the month getting to hang out with these ladies and getting to know them more.
3. While spring is still self-isolating, the trees are starting to bloom
4. A new car
Granted, we had to drive to Ohio to get it, but I am now the proud lease holder of a Mazda 3
5. Carrot bread
The best thing ever :)
6. M&M Brownies
Need I say more?
6. A new Sunday morning routine of picking up breakfast and coffee from a local coffee shop before doing church online

That Quarantined Life
I know that I'm one of the lucky ones, I still have a job. I'm not trying to balance working and homeschooling. I'm not completely alone.
A foggy morning |
Look who we ran into on our walk :) |
We are also trying to mark the end of the work day. With us working in the same field, we have enough issues leaving work at work. What we don't want is the email and the projects to spill into our evenings. So, at the end of the workday, we pause. Some days we take a walk, some days we do chores around the house. Just something to indicate that the work day is done.
Self-care is also big for me. I'm also keeping up with my usual eating habits, and since I've always worked out at home, I'm still working out.
Lunch! |
I know that this too shall end. And I am thankful that I can still get together with the ladies from church and my small group - even if it is over Zoom. And I am happy that my okay days are more than my not okay days.
So how about you? How are you dealing with the staying at home?

Celebrating My Birthday During Quarantine
So we improvised. We still ate out for breakfast, we just picked it up from the restaurant and ate at home.
A veggie filled omelet, toast, bacon and lightly dressed mixed greens |
We still went out, at least for a drive. We were still isolating, just in our car and not our house. We even packed a lunch and ate it in the car. We decided to follow the Ohio River through a bunch of towns and then came home via farm country. It was an amazing drive, with a lot of scenery.
Some cows that we saw while driving through the countryside |
Dinner was again brought home. The nice part though was that I was able to get Thai food and Jim was able to get barbecue.
Fresh Summer Rolls and Pad Ka Prao (Spicy Basil) |
Brisket and macaroni and cheese |
So all in all a great day. Yes, we had to improvise, and it wasn't what we had originally planned. But we rolled with it and had a great time.

It has been a while
So far we seem to be dealing pretty well with the stay at home order. For us, because of our jobs, it has only been a little over a week since we've been working from home. Basically, when our governor issued the stay-at-home order. We've quickly developed a routine to our days. We've made staying active a priority. We've also continued to get up and get ready each day like we would have had we gone into work. I've made a point to get dressed in real clothes - even if they are jeans - and to do my makeup. For me there is just something about doing my hair and makeup and wearing something cute to elevate my mood.
Sunrise on our morning walk |
One nice thing is that instead of getting in our car to drive to work, we are able to take a walk through our neighborhood before we start work.
So, back to the blog. I think that right now my goal is to post at least once a week. I'll post about what I'm cooking and eating, what my workouts are looking like. And, for now, how we're coping with social distancing. Hopefully I can keep it up and you find posts that you enjoy reading.
Until next time
